America's Water: Infrastructure gaps, their health, environmental and economic impacts and future directions
America's Water: Infrastructure gaps, their health, environmental and economic impacts and future directions
Session ID#: 119769
Session Description:
Aging and failing water and wastewater infrastructure in America, with a changing climate as an additional threat are a growing concern. Affordability of water and wastewater services and the inequity in the impacts of failing systems on economically disadvantaged populations are emergent themes. We also have a large inventory of aging dams and levees whose failure could be catastrophic and lack strategies for their restoration or removal. A comprehensive research platform is needed to synthesize the key factors and posit technical, financial and policy solutions to these inter-related challenges that are critical for human health, economic development and ecological sustainability. We welcome contributions focused on individual infrastructure challenges; those that highlight regional or national analyses; and ones that take a holistic approach to the problems.
