Advances in Land Carbon Cycle Modeling

Session ID#: 156766

Session Description:
Our predictive understanding of land biogeochemistry has been improved greatly owing to substantial increases in data availability from observations and experiments and significant advances in modeling techniques. However, quantitative forecasting of land carbon cycle is still a big challenge, as reflected by the large uncertainties in simulated carbon storage and fluxes across Earth system models. To meet the challenge, it will likely be necessary to develop new theories on carbon cycle, invent new modeling techniques, devise innovative tools for data-model integration, and/or use new artificial intelligence approaches such as machine learning. This session aims to include presentations on advances in land carbon cycle science and techniques to improve land carbon cycle models. We invite contributions from theoreticians, modelers, and experimentalists to this session on improving land carbon cycle modeling.
