Advances in remote sensing for monitoring biodiversity change: Integrating data and models across scales and technologies
Advances in remote sensing for monitoring biodiversity change: Integrating data and models across scales and technologies
Session ID#: 159844
Session Description:
Earth’s biodiversity creates the foundation of our habitable planet. Faced with increasing threats the need is urgent for integrated approaches to monitor and forecast biodiversity change from genes to ecosystems.
This session highlights advances in remote sensing of biodiversity across land, water, and air. We invite innovative research and applications combining remote sensing with other observation technologies, products, models, and analytic frameworks. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Combining biodiversity-relevant data across sensors, platforms (in-water, airborne and spacecraft), and data sources (e.g., genomics, eDNA, camera traps, acoustics, museums, citizen scientists)
- AI/ML applications for automated data harmonization, big data analysis, pattern discovery, and facilitating data utilization
- Tools to help users explore, understand, and apply data products to biodiversity studies
- Remote sensing of challenging targets: below the canopy, underground, below the water surface, and of animals
- Remote sensing that illuminates ecosystem function, phylogenetic relationships and other dimensions of biodiversity
