Advanced Understanding of Tropical-Subtropical Hydroclimate Changes During the Pleistocene, Holocene, and Anthropocene
Session ID#: 157915
Session Description:
Tropical-subtropical climate changes during the Pleistocene and Holocene are manifested as dramatic reorganizations of rainfall patterns, in contrast to the dramatic temperature swings in the higher latitudes. Due to the anthropogenic perturbation, the future regional and global conditions are more difficult to be well-predicted. Despite the increasing availability of tropical-subtropical paleoclimate records and model simulations, the physical mechanisms driving these changes are still unclear. We invite contributions exploring changes in the hydrological, monsoonal, ENSO, and Indian Ocean Dipole on annual-to-glacial timescales since the Pleistocene by natural archive data, new proxies, and simulation methods to reconstruct hydroclimate changes from local to regional scales in the tropics and their global links. We particularly welcome proxy-model syntheses exploring physical mechanisms.
