Perspectives for the Evolution of the InterRidge initiative and Marine Research Communities through the prism of interdisciplinary scientific results
Session ID#: 158882
Session Description:
InterRidge is a non-profit organization that promotes all aspects of collaborative ocean floor research, including fundamental science questions, multidisciplinary exploration and monitoring, protection, and assessment of environmental and geophysical risks. In the decade of renewed interest in studying marine environments and subsurface, and unprecedented pressure on fragile marine ecosystems, promoting a strong, interconnected marine research community has become pivotal. The InterRidge organization is an ideal platform to help us advance and disseminate our knowledge of the oceanic lithosphere and associated geo-biological processes, strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations, and leverage scientific expertise to help preserve marine environments. The focus of the session is two-folded: 1) presenting ground-breaking research from ridge to the trench, within the solid and fluid Earth’s envelopes and their interplay, and 2) providing ideas for concrete activities for the overarching goal of promoting interdisciplinary research through InterRidge.
