ED029
Supporting Diversity in Earth and Space Science Education and Public Engagement

Session ID#: 159244

Session Description:
Scientists share their science with broader communities through education, communication, and public engagement programs. This session seeks to highlight the ways scientists successfully engage diverse audiences, with an emphasis on the specific strategies these programs use to center justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. How can education, communication, and public engagement efforts promote justice and better serve diverse communities? How can the Earth and Space Science community better include scientists of historically oppressed and ignored communities in education and communication programs?

This session will share inclusive and equitable ways to support diverse students and other audiences. We invite presentations that will enable and empower diverse scientists to participate in these programs, that will provide recommendations for vetted resources and partnerships that enable authentic engagement with diverse communities, and that exemplify the principles of diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion.
