Innovative autonomous and robotic systems for persistent ecosystem intelligence
Innovative autonomous and robotic systems for persistent ecosystem intelligence
Session ID#: 254250
Session Description:
A healthy ocean underpins essential ecosystem services, yet sustaining these benefits requires persistent, cost-effective, long-term monitoring across biological, chemical, and physical domains. As human pressures and climate change intensify, autonomous systems are emerging as ever-more critical tools for ecosystem observations and understanding marine systems.
This session explores how recent advances in autonomous systems - ranging from individual platforms through to fully integrated coordinated fleets - are enabling persistent, wide-ranging, and efficient ecosystem monitoring. These technologies are expanding our sensing capabilities across spatial scales and trophic levels, from microbes to megafauna, and across the full spectrum of ocean physics and chemistry.
We invite contributions that demonstrate how innovations in autonomous systems are driving new scientific insight and transforming our capacity to monitor ocean ecosystems in real time. Example topics include mobile and autonomous vehicles and fleets, onboard edge computing for reduced data transfer, power-efficient embedded systems and sensors, AI-driven mission planning, and strategies for managing uncertainty during long-term deployments.
By connecting technology development in ocean autonomy with scientific applications, this session aims to highlight how integrated autonomous systems are advancing holistic understanding of ocean ecosystems and supporting sustainable marine futures.
