Marine Microbial Interactions: From Mechanisms to Ecosystem Function

Session Description:
Microbes, such as phytoplankton, form the foundation of marine ecosystems, driving biogeochemical cycles, food webs, and shaping the health and productivity of marine environments. Yet their interactions – from viral infections to chemical signalling – remain some of the most dynamic and least understood components of ocean life. This session will explore the complex interplay among marine microorganisms, across spatial and temporal scales and from molecular mechanisms to ecosystem-level consequences.
We invite contributions showcasing innovative and integrative methodologies ranging from field observations, laboratory experiments, numerical models to multi-omics approaches to investigate microbial interactions in the ocean. Topics can include, but are not limited to predator-prey, virus-host dynamics, allelopathy, parasitism, symbiosis, and the influence of environmental change on these processes. Studies which bridge disciplines and/or scales are particularly encouraged.
By bringing together researchers from across different disciplines, this session aims to provide new insights into how microbial interactions influence the structure and functioning of marine ecosystems.
