AHTR Lightning Round: Assessing Lesson Plans

Session will present: On location

Art History Teaching Resources -- a peer-populated, online repository of art history teaching content -- launched more than ten years ago. The site promotes discussion and reflection around new ways of teaching and learning in the art history classroom. The lesson plans on AHTR still receive the most hits as instructors visit the site. But students and pedagogy have changed in many ways in the past decade. Do the lesson plans still accurately reflect the varied ways that we teach art history? If not, how can we revitalize them?

This session asks presenters to deconstruct, reimagine, or critique the traditional lesson plans available through AHTR. We anticipate at least six presenters will participate in this Lightning Round, addressing a specific lesson plan from the site and introducing pedagogical interventions. To give the session focus and common ground, we will select three lesson plans to address in the session, based on the interest of participants. To explore varied approaches, each lesson plan will be reimagined by two different participants. For example, participants might address similar learning objectives in the introductory courses through a thematic or chronological approach. The remainder of the session will be open to brainstorming and creating deliverables that will be published on AHTR. Session attendees are also invited to bring and share ideas about a lesson plan to the session to discuss. Abstracts should address why the presenter would be interested in this pedagogical practice. All approaches are welcome.
