One of the major challenges of the post-genomic world is the efficient application of genomic information to solve practical problems such as the improvement of breeding processes. A key infrastructure in this process is a database that can store genotypic and phenotypic information, with tools that link phenotypes to genotypes. The Cassavabase (http://cassavabase.org/) platform implements extensive web-based genotype, trait, pedigree, crosses, and field design data management tools. It also provides a genomic selection tool that can generate prediction models and apply the models to genotyped accessions. Data export functions for major association genetics software are also available. The software can be applied to any other species or clade and is available in an open source format.
