Experimental and Analytical Advances in Mineral Studies at Extreme Conditions
Experimental and Analytical Advances in Mineral Studies at Extreme Conditions
Session ID#: 75465
Session Description:
To understand the complex nature of the Earth’s interior and to provide new constraints on models for planetary origins and evolutions, fundamental properties such as melting behavior, structure, phase relations, chemical reactions, kinetics, transport mechanisms, elasticity, and electronic states of a wide range of minerals must be studied in-situ at extreme pressure, temperature, and stress conditions. Recent progress in static and dynamic techniques including significant improvements in spatial and energy resolutions, as well as the combination of x-ray and optical methods, are extending this research to previously inaccessible scales. This session welcomes contributions that highlight cutting-edge developments in experimental methods, including sample synthesis, sample characterization, and recent results in static and dynamic mineral studies under extreme conditions benefitting from these advancements.
