Beyond the walls:  stimulating the Earth Science educational experience

Session ID#: 82379

Session Description:
Field and laboratory experiences are powerful approaches to enhancing classroom instruction, and can be an important pathway for engaging students in the Earth Sciences and developing a career in the field.  Effective engagement is critically important given the interest in encouraging STEM fields worldwide.  We welcome submissions broadly focusing both laboratory or field experiences to engage and excite students beyond teaching the fundamentals of Earth Science.  These could include, but are not limited to: 1) field trips and field-based classes for college students; 2) REU type programs; 3)  laboratory exposure to participate in making  novel or sophisticated measurements and 4) professional development programs for teachers or other groups. We especially encourage submissions of novel uses of technology and specific case studies.
