The Legibility of the Stack, Artists in the Archive

For over a decade, the exhibition program at Radcliffe has organized projects in the university context that engage with knowledge production, the formation of community, and the legacies of collections and colonialism. Working in both the contemporary art field, and exhibitions that draw from the collections of the Schlesinger Library on Women in America, these projects consider topics ranging from the legibility of archives, collections policies and the law, representations of marginalized groups, and the formal quality of archives. This presentation will present three art exhibitions that utilized archives from Harvard’s campus by Gala Porras-Kim, Mary Lum, and Xiveria Simmons.
