From Urbino to the Vatican City and back: the Library of Federico da Montefeltro, as it was, where it was.
The paper focuses on one of the most important and biggest Renaissance libraries in Europe: the library of Federico da Montefeltro, duke of Urbino, with hundreds and hundreds of manuscripts, mostly beautifully illuminated, various in content, in Latin, Greek, Italian Vernacular, Hebrew, Arabic language, bought by the Pope Alexander VII Chigi in 1657 and moved to the Vatican Library, where they still are preserved, accessible only to specialized scholars. In the Ducal Palace of Urbino one can see the room which used to host the library in origin, today sadly empty. The question is: maybe can we virtually reconstruct and digitally visualize the library of Federico da Montefeltro, as it was, where it was, its design and decoration, the shelves with all the manuscripts in the same order they had in the XV century, navigate the 3D model, choose a book, and read it?
